Spectacular Grammar

In this one hour workshop, participants will create a peer-to-peer online publication. This is an experiment in DIWO (Do It With Others) online publishing. On April 6, 2019, participants of the workshop page-2-page created self-reflexive websites that documented Spectacular Grammar using Beaker Browser, a free, open-source web browser, and dat, a p2p protocol. By seeding each others' pages, the personal computers of each participant host the publication, rather than using a centralized network.

Introduction

• Download Beaker Browser
• Mindy talks about decentralized online publishing.
• Mindy demos Beaker.

Build

• In small groups, participants will build one web page. Try to include at least one person with basic coding knowledge in each group. Each site will provide an overview of a talk or workshop that occurred at Spectacular Grammar.
• Create a new site on Beaker.
• Use index.html to transcribe your notes to the page. Focus on basic text elements:
• h1
• p
• ul and li
• Use styles.css to change the appearance of the page. Focus on basic changes:
• background
• text-align
• font-size
• color
• Publish your site.
• Open Hashbase.
• Create an account.
• Click "upload archive" in the top-right nav.
• Follow the instructions and then send me the hashbase link below.
• Paste your hashbase link, group member names, and page title in this google-doc.
